Stonnington City Council
Glen Iris Wetlands Interactive Interpretation
With a commitment to protecting and enhancing biodiversity throughout the municipality, the City of Stonnington has created a wildlife haven within the Glen Iris Wetlands. Nuttshell was approached to develop and produce an interactive and engaging signage program to extend education in the wetlands beyond the existing visitor centre.
This natural environment now serves as an education tool to inspire and delight the community.
Nuttshell’s approach included light and soundscapes to promote the learning experience. At the entrance to the park stands an interactive water cycle display, enhanced with LED lighting to illustrate the water journey. Using push button technology, bird sounds emanate from the bird hide, cycling through species illustrated on the hide walls. Along with these bird songs, frog sounds roll across the wetlands, educating the public in the sounds to listen out for. Small identification signs promote the flora of the parkland.
Taking colour cues from the environment around, these signs sit well in their environment. With all signage using illustration, this well-rounded signage program serves its educational role to enhance the wetlands experience.
