Nuttshell is a design studio based in North Melbourne. We deliver smart and spirited design, with an innovative use of
media and materials.
All on time, on budget, and on brief. For clients that we love working with, and who love working with us.
The Making of a Statue
The La Trobe Society asked us to design a publication on the making of the La Trobe Statue that has sat outside the State Library since 2006. Written by John Drury, a strong grid and controlled colour make this a beautiful book, rich in detail and texture.
The Tiger Trek begins…
After two and half years, we’re very excited to see our work on the new Tiger Trek precinct at Taronga Zoo launched.
With Ian Bracegirdle of Motherworks, at the helm of the project team, Nuttshell collaborated on the concept and creation of this brand new tiger precinct. From set dressing props to interpretative signage and wayfinding Nuttshell created all of the graphics to make this precinct come to life.
A joyous convergence
Nuttshell was honoured to be approached by the Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority to create the Season of Excellence visual identity again in 2018.
Extending education into the wetlands
With a commitment to protecting and enhancing biodiversity throughout the municipality, the City of Stonnington has created a wildlife haven within the Glen Iris Wetlands. Nuttshell was approached to develop and produce an interactive and engaging signage program to extend education in the wetlands beyond the existing visitor centre.
Tis the Season of Excellence!
The annual VCE Season of Excellence showcases the best creative talent from VCE studies across technology, design, multimedia, cinematic, visual and performing arts, through exhibition, performance and screenings.
An exciting and dynamic space
The Top Designs exhibition at Melbourne Museum is part of the annual VCE Season of Excellence. Nuttshell was approached by the Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority to create the 2017 VCE Season of Excellence brand and, as a part of this project, the Top Designs exhibition graphics.
Celebrating 175 years
Celebrating 175 years, Australian Unity engaged Nuttshell to design a book that told the story of Friendly Societies in Australia. This fascinating social history is brought to life with fabulous archival imagery and sumptuous fine art reproductions.
A complete wayfinding strategy
A complete wayfinding strategy was designed and documented for the Shire of Campaspe. Our work culminated in a detailed and thorough strategy package including mapping, directional decisions and creative design.
Fresh and accessible reporting
The brief to revitalise Transdev’s Corporate Reports called for a fresher more accessible design. We responded with a light and playful design using white space, full colour imagery and a landscape layout to our advantage. The format of both Reports celebrates horizontal photography of long buses, trains and ferries, creating a synergy between content and design.
Heritage and integrity
The Bastow Institute of Educational Leadership is housed in a historic State School designed by the Government Architect Henry Bastow in the 1880’s. Nuttshell designed an elegant publication to tell the Bastow story.
A scientific approach...
With a creative brief to explore ’science’ in the newly designed school of sciences by Clarke Hopkins Clarke Architects, we took a collaborative approach with all stakeholders. The result is a fully integrated display that builds upon the foundations laid by the architects.
